Reasons I Would Recommend This Book...
First of all, I would recommend this book to someone because it is very easy to relate to. There are many different conflicts in the story, which can be confusing at times, but also gives the better chance of any reader having a connection to some part of the plot. Also, if the reader has ever lost a family member or close friend due to a slower illness, such as cancer, where you know your time with them is limited but you were given a warning, they can understand the pain and utter confusion that Taylor is going through. I lost my grandfather to cancer recently so I can relate to this book very much which is one of the reasons I think I enjoyed the book. Some other aspects of the story that readers could relate to are dealing with an ex, starting a first job, feeling left out, and having overachieving siblings. All of these examples show how broad the audience can be and why this book is great for everyone.
Another great reason to read this book is that it really opens your eyes. As you follow the story of Taylor and her family, you come to realize just how simple your life really is. Sure, besides the fact that her dad is dying, Taylor isn't facing any major problems but her story puts everything into perspective. All of Taylor's friends have left her and she has to try to live up to her siblings' outstanding talents, not to mention that she has the tendency to run away when she gets scared or doesn't know what else to do. Seeing all of Taylor's troubles makes you think how lucky you are and that is only one of many reasons to read this book.
Next, this book should be recommended to everyone because although it is not quickly-paced and its rather long, the quality of the story makes up for it. The facts are stated in a casual way and the author, Morgan Matson, takes her time in explaining which gives the reader a better idea and understanding of what it going on. Unlike other books, the facts aren't just thrown out there and given to the reader; you have to dig for them. This challenges the reader and also makes the story more interesting.
Finally, I would recommend this book to everyone I know because it hits both ends on the emotion spectrum quite frequently. Just by hearing the summary and basic information about the story, it sounds like the book would be sad the entire time. On the contrary. There are just as many parts in this book that will make you laugh as there is moments that will make you cry. To lighten the load of this sad topic, the author throws in humor in the form of puns said between Taylor and her father. Overall, this book is a great read for everyone, young and old, because they can relate to it through the many topics, the story line opens the eyes of the reader, the descriptive writing helps the reader deeply understand what is happening, and there is a wide range of feelings brought about by this book.
